Week of October 29th - Nov. 2nd

This week's focus is the Industrial Revolution.

Monday, Oct. 29th


Today students will be introduced to the Industrial Revolution by looking at what the Industrial Revolution was, where and when it began, and why it began. Then we will look at the rise of factories and railroads. Students will fill in their reading notes during a class discussion.

Tuesday, Oct. 30th


Today students will discuss how industry spread and new scientific discoveries and inventions that were caused by the Industrial Revolution. Students will discuss and fill-in their reading note guides during a class discussion.

Wednesday, Oct. 31st


Today students will move into chapter 19 section 3 which focuses on the effects on society and politics. Students will discover the impact of rapidly growing cities, what industrial life was like, and changes in the roles of women and children in society. These effects lead to new ideas on the role of government in society and new political philosophies develop like Liberalism, Utilitarianism, and Socialism. Students will discuss as a class while filling out their note organizer.

Thursday, Nov. 1st


Today students will discuss the industrial revolutions impact on art/literature and science/medicine. Students will look at examples of new artistic styles and read new literary styles and focuses. Students will discuss important scientific advancements and new ideas that emerge out of the Industrial Revolution, like the Germ Revolution, Einstein and his role in Physics and Charles Darwin, the Theory of Evolution, and Social Darwinism. All of this will be during a discussion in which students will fill out their notes.

Today students will decide if the industrial revolution was good or bad for society. They will look at the negative and positive consequences and then write 5 paragraph essay defending their position.

Homework: Finish Essay by Monday. Nov. 5th

Monday and Tuesday night are parent teacher conferences. I hope you will be able to attend the conferences especially if your son or daughter is struggling in my class. I have soccer off-season and will not be able to be at CJHS until 4:30. You should plan accordingly.
