Week of Dec. 3rd - 7th

This week students will be focusing on World War II. Students will be able to explain what the world was like in between the wars, why and where WWII began, why the US entered WWII, the two theaters of conflict (Pacific and European), the immediate devastating impact of the war (casualties, Holocaust, Manhattan Project, etc...), and the wars future impact on Europe and the world (Cold War.)

Monday, Dec. 3rd

Students will complete the WWI section by taking the WWI test.

Homework: Guided Reading 21-1, 21-2, and 21-3; Economic Activity (21-1) due on Thursday

Tuesday, Dec. 4th

Students will begin the WWII section by discussing what Europe and the US were like after WWI and before WWII. In particular students will look at the effects of the Great Depression on the world. Further students will discuss why Germany, Italy, and the Soviet Union all turned to dictators and how the military took control of Japan.

Wednesday, Dec. 5th

Students will look at how the war began. First students will look at appeasement and how Germany rearmed itself under Hitler and how the world attempted to appease him. Then students will discuss how Germany started WWII through aggressive expansion and discover how the early stages of WWII were fought in Europe. Then we will shift focus to the Pacific theater of WWII and look at how Japan's expansion and imperialism went contrary to US foreign policy and led to Pearl Harbor and the US entering WWII.

Homework: Guided Reading 21-1, 21-2, and 21-3; Economic Activity (21-1) both due on Thursday


Thursday, Dec. 6th

Students will discuss the US entry into WWII and how the war concluded on the European front.

Friday, Dec. 7th

Students will discuss the Holocaust and its impact on Europe. Students will discover how the Nazi's attempted to solve what Hitler termed, "the Jewish problem."
