Students will look at how the war began. First students will look at appeasement and how Germany rearmed itself under Hitler and how the world attempted to appease him. Then students will discuss how Germany started WWII through aggressive expansion and discover how the early stages of WWII were fought in Europe. Then we will shift focus to the Pacific theater of WWII and look at how Japan's expansion and imperialism went contrary to US foreign policy and led to Pearl Harbor and the US entering WWII.<br />

To help students think through who they are going to vote for students our encouraged to watch at least 30 minutes of tonight's Presidential debate. I remember sitting in class hearing about the WTC from my mother who was a teacher at my school. While that terrorist attack on our nation hurt us a great deal I am proud of how our country has responded. Today students finished our discussion over the Italian Renaissance (Ch. 17 Sect. 1.) Further students were given information on their next project: The Renaissance Art Research Project. Students, on their own time, will pick a piece of Renaissance art. Students will then research the work and then present that work by creating a poster that gives key pieces of information and a one paragraph caption about the work. Students were given a rubric and detailed directions to help them finish the assignment.<br />

Today students finished the Renaissance by discussing how the Renaissance spread North and what the Northern Renaissance was like. Students were given a review sheet and optional assignments (enrichment activities) to help the students prepare for their test over the Renaissance on TUESDAY (9/11!) Monday we will review the Renaissance (17.1 and 17.2) in class by playing a review game. <br />

Each group has picked a country and begun gathering information and statistics about their country using Almanacs and the </span><a href="https://www.cia.gov/library/publications/the-world-factbook/" target="_blank"><span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">CIA World Factbook</span></a><span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;"> online. Students will use their research to create three posters; geography (map), government/military, and level of development. The project will be completed on Wednesday (8/29) with groups presenting their posters to the class.</span><br />

Students also began analyzing their country to determine the level of development. Some students were able to start working on their posters. Welcome back to school. A lot is changing which is difficult for everyone but I believe this will be an exciting year. The first week of school is a difficult time for any student but we have alot to cover and a short period of time to do it so we will get started right away. <br />
<br />
Students already have homework assignments. On Tuesday reading notes for GH1 - GH13 and Tools1-Tools9 were assigned. These notes are due on Thursday. We will begin out first project this Thursday. It will ocver government structures, geographical terms, and how geography, government, and stats can help us explain the world we live in, especially in history. The project will conclude on Wednesday of next week.<br />
